Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located many other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
