19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after spring of 2023.

Success also signifies he has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

He saved four early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
